The Silver Coast is one of Portugal’s hottest new golf destinations. With world-class courses like Praia d'el Rey setting the standard for some exacting golfing among the spectacular scenery of the Atlantic Coast this is the region that more and more discerning golfers are turning to.
One of the newer arrivals is the course at Bom Sucesso which traverses the hills between the ocean and Óbidos lagoon; but this is by no means the last in a programme of golf development that will transform this region in the coming years.
Championship courses
Inland at the Golden Eagle Golf Course near Rio Maior, which is regarded as being one of the
longest and most challenging in Portugal, there is a second championship course in the pipeline. It is being designed by Bernard Langer and will be his first Signature Course in the country.
New development
Another golf course under construction is the Royal Óbidos golf course, designed by Seve Ballesteros, and there are more courses in the planning stages just north of the Foz do Arelho beaches and in the Bom Sucesso area.
The attraction of the Silver Coast is that the courses are quieter, cheaper and every bit as good as their counterparts in the popular Algarve region. And there is a course for every taste, from the open skies of links courses with views of the Atlantic through to fairways lined with pine trees and greens defended by sparkling lakes.
