It is not all about beaches and countryside on the Silver Coast. Here there is something to keep the kids happy and occupied no matter what the weather is doing.
On the Silver Coast there is plenty to keep the children amused when the weather turns bad. Caldas da Rainha has Bowling Caldas, a bowling alley and amusement centre with ten lanes, pool table, video games and a restaurant and bar. On the weekends the centre often lays on music and live entertainment in the evenings.
Indoor Fun
Younger children will love Kids Park, also in Caldas da Rainha. This indoor facility has a maze-like soft climbing area, a bouncy castle, soft mini football pitch and a separate soft play area for toddlers. Upstairs is a café and mezzanine floor for parents who would like some refreshment while keeping an eye on their children.
For adventure of a different kind try the go-karts at Dinokart near Lourinhã or Kiro Karting near Bombarral. Both have karts to rent and great tracks to ride them on for an adrenaline-fuelled afternoon.
Speed thrills
Lagoon fun The beaches around Óbidos lagoon provide a sheltered environment for messing about with water and will give children hours of fun. But if you want a change from the beaches there are many other options for entertaining the family.
In the summer months the sailing club on Óbidos Lagoon, Escola de Vela da Lagoa, runs lessons and activity clubs for children that include sailing, canoeing and a range of water-based activities. The Silver Coast is also a great place to learn surfing and schools such as Peniche Surf Camp offer courses for all ages and abilities.
Water parks
On sunny days head for one of the water parks located in the area. Just to the north of Nazaré is Norpark, a family friendly park with both fast slides for those above the age of six and gentler slides for the younger ones. Also on site is a large play pool for small children, a semi-Olympic-sized pool for more serious swimmers, a hydro massage pool, giant Jacuzzi and restaurant.
On the outskirts of Peniche is Sportágua, another water park designed to cater for all ages. As well as slides the park has swimming pools for adults and a children’s pool where the maximum depth is 60cm. There is a restaurant on site for when the family has worked up enough of an appetite from all that swimming and sliding.
