Golden Eagle golf course is located near Rio Maior, just over a half an hour drive north of Lisbon, and offers a competitive and fascinating Silver Coast golf game on a course that traverses a huge area and includes nine lakes and 87 bunkers. The setting of Golden Eagle Golf is beautiful with trees that almost touch the fairways, eagles soaring above the greens and a rich and lush variety of plants at every turn.
The 18-hole, par 72, 6.623 metre golf course at Golden Eagle was designed by Rocky Roquemore and opened in 1994. The Golden Eagle golf course is widely acknowledged as one of the most challenging courses in Portugal and is one of the longest. The diversity of holes with numerous bunkers protecting both fairways and greens and strategic lakes makes golfing here an unforgettable experience.
Highlights
The highlight holes at Golden Eagle Golf Course are the seventh, where positioning of the tee is required in order to make your approach through a tree lined valley, and the twelfth a par 3 with a green surrounded by a magnificent lake that requires absolute accuracy. Golf here takes sport and leisure to a new high.
Golden Eagle golf course also offers extensive facilities for those wanting to improve their game at the Golden Eagle Golf Academy. Facilities include a 400 metre, double-ended driving range, 60 metres wide to accommodate large groups; a championship size putting green; short game area; and an indoor teaching room equipped with the latest training technology. A variety of golf packages are offered, all conducted by experienced PGA qualified golf professionals. And for those who have worked up an appetite there is a fine restaurant alongside the course offering a variety of Silver Coast cuisine, all washed down with some of the best wines available in Portugal.
New course
A second championship standard course is currently being designed by Bernhard Langer in association with European Golf Design. It is the first Bernhard Langer Signature Course in Portugal and with its magnificent layout is set become a very well known must-play golf course. Some of the most prestigious tournaments in the international golfing calendar are expected at Golden Eagle which was the host of the Ladies European Tour in June 2009.
